17President Goodluck Jonathan Of Nigeria Wins And Avoids A Run-Off
Posted By: Ebuka Okonkwo on April 17, 2011 at 11:40 pmPresident Goodluck Jonathan has won the presidential election in Nigeria. AfricanMemo can confidently project a big for the PDP have enough share of votes across the country's 36 states to avoid a run-off election. He appears well on course to win an clear majority of votes. Reuters tally showed on Sunday.
As stipulated by the constitution, the winner of a presidential election must have a simple majority votes as well as 25% of the votes in two thirds of the country's individual states.
Results declared so far in 30 states shows Jonathan with a win in a quarter of the total votes in 24 states. A fascinating development considering the early lead by his closest rival General Muhammadu Buhari of the CPC.
He is currently leading with over 20 millions of the total votes counted, a significant and unsurmountable lead, making impossible to loose to ex-military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, who is just around 10 million of the votes counted so far.
Additional media reports from Reuters in this video clip points to the same conclusion as canvassed by AfricanMemo that the president will be declared winner of the 2011 election.
Based on the tally so far we project that President Goodluck Jonathan will we in As Rock, the Presidential Villa for his win in elective position.
An amazing feat for someone from none of the ruling class or tribe in Nigeria.

03The New Economic Scramble for Africa: Re-colonization or what?
Posted By: Ebuka Okonkwo on July 3, 2008 at 3:27 amDecades after the symbolic departure of the European colonial powers, there is now a renewed global interest in the economic affairs of Africa. China, India and Russia have joined Europe and America in a mad rush for the inestimable resources in the continent.
Most recently, China have invested billions of dollars in Africa and looks forward to increasing their stake in the coming years.
Whereas we welcome this renewed attention, our leader must guard against selling the goose that lays the golden. Opinion writers and bloggers must step up research to make sure that the continent is not re-colonized economically in the ways that political colonization left us in shambles. All investment must pass the threshold of mutual benefits and not at the expense of Africa or her new trading alliances. BBC News reports more on this topic. Read More »

26Mugabe’s prolonged exit may lead to a failed State around South Africa.
Posted By: Ebuka Okonkwo on June 26, 2008 at 4:46 amHours ago, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai stepped out of his political delusion that Mr Mugabe will voluntarily leave power without some of force. He issued a 24 hours ultimatum to Mugabe to suspend the runoff election on Friday. A weak attempt to draw blood but a good beginning at best for a man who is not known for having a spin. A welcome development from M.D.C. and Mr Tsvangirai who until now have shied away from trading blows with Mugabe, who understands only one language: FORCE.
It is sad that to see a good and prosperous country like Zimbabwe run down so badly by an unrepentant misfit. Mugabe's silly position of fighting for land reforms as the reason for staying in power even at the cost of destroying the same people he is trying to help is laughable, as it is disgusting. However laudable his fight is about land reform, it is not working and people are suffering. Read More »

Was it ever possible that Mr Mugabe will just roll over and surrender power to Mr Tsvagairai of the M.D.C.? Only if you are not African you may think so. Or maybe if you are a big dreamer! This is Africa and we Africans are used to tin gods masquerading as leaders. The continent is littered with despots and recovering from addiction to power. Mr Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe is a tin god and will never relinquish power unless violently removed from power as he effectively employed against the British. I am not advocating such tactics against him but merely placing in context why the M.D.C. has failed so far in staging a power takeover.
Mr Morgan Tsvangirai and his M.D.C. supporters lost that opportunity when they accepted a runoff because the first one, according to the government was a statistical tie. When is 48% vs 43% a statistical tie? Even if you accept this diluted version from the government of Mugabe, the man himself admitted that he lost by 5 percentage points!
The moment Mr Mugabe suspended the prompt releasing of the election results earlier this year, you knew something was stewing. Read More »

Screaming headlines in the last few days about arms shipment from China to Zimbabwe have spurred serious debate regarding the new imperialist tendencies of China. When you take into account the Darfur crisis and China's partisan interest in the region, working in concert with the Sudanese government to perpetuate atrocities on the helpless black Sudanese, you wonder what in the world is happening in Africa, especially with the massive influx of Chinese in the continent. Additionally, it was reported that the Chinese authorities have saddled Nigeria with billions of dollars in loans. Read More »
