Black, the clay footed ‘god ‘of Thabo Mbeki.

July 4th, 2008 in Opinion
The current crisis in Zimbabwe should not surprise anyone even if your interest in African affairs is a casual one. You could see it coming, Robert Mugabe was never going to step down from power and Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, the miserable leader in the southern hemisphere was going to be the enabler. Why? Simple, Thabo Mbeki’s god is BLACK!
In 2004, at the height of the HIV and AIDS scourge in South Africa, Mr

The New Economic Scramble for Africa: Re-colonization or what?

July 3rd, 2008 in Opinion

Decades after the symbolic departure of the European colonial powers, there is now a renewed global interest in the economic affairs of Africa. China, India and Russia have joined Europe and America in a mad rush for the inestimable resources in the continent.
Most recently, China have invested billions of dollars in Africa and looks forward to increasing their stake in the coming years.
Whereas we welcome this renewed attention, our leader must guard against selling the goose that lays the golden. Opinion writers and bloggers must step up research to make sure that the continent is not re-colonized economically in the ways that political colonization left us in shambles. All investment must pass the threshold of mutual benefits and not at the expense of Africa or he

Mugabe’s prolonged exit may lead to a failed State around South Africa.

June 26th, 2008 in Opinion

Hours ago, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai stepped out of his political delusion that Mr Mugabe will voluntarily leave power without some of force. He issued a 24 hours ultimatum to Mugabe to suspend the runoff election on Friday. A weak attempt to draw blood but a good beginning at best for a man who is not known for having a spin. A welcome development from M.D.C. and Mr Tsvangirai who until now have shied away from trading blows with Mugabe, who understands only one language: FORCE.
It is sad that to see a good and prosperous country like Zimbabwe run down so badly by an unrepentant misfit. Mugabe’s silly position of fighting for land reforms as the reason for staying in power even at the cost of destroying the same people he is trying to help is laughable, as it is disgusti

Mr Mugabe, the Old man at his game.

June 22nd, 2008 in Opinion

Was it ever possible that Mr Mugabe will just roll over and surrender power to Mr Tsvagairai of the M.D.C.? Only if you are not African you may think so. Or maybe if you are a big dreamer! This is Africa and we Africans are used to tin gods masquerading as leaders. The continent is littered with despots and recovering from addiction to power. Mr Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe is a tin god and will never relinquish power unless violently removed from power as he effectively employed against the British. I am not advocating such tactics against him but merely placing in context why the M.D.C. has failed so far in staging a power takeover.
Mr Morgan Tsvangirai and his M.D.C. supporters lost that opportunity when they accepted a runoff because the first one, according to the govern

Barbaric, Bizarre and Shameful !!!

May 20th, 2008 in Opinion

Just Bizarre! Call it what it is: the shameful violent attacks on African immigrants in South Africa.

Over the weekend rogue individuals conveniently forgot the amount of sacrifice many African nations paid to free South Africa from the scrooge of apartheid and segregation, took to the streets to chase and kill their benefactors whom they claim are taking thei

China, the New Imperialist in Africa?

April 22nd, 2008 in Opinion

Screaming headlines in the last few days about arms shipment from China to Zimbabwe have spurred serious debate regarding the new imperialist tendencies of China. When you take into account the Darfur crisis and China’s partisan interest in the region, working in concert with the Sudanese government to perpetuate atrocities on the helpless black Sudanese, you wonder what in the world is happening in Africa, especially with the massive influx of Chinese in the continent. Additionally, it was reported that the Chinese authorities have saddled Nigeria with billions of dollars in loans.
